Henry Horenstein is one of the most well known and accomplished photographers working today. Using animal as well as human subjects, Horenstein creates compelling and frequently ambiguous images that explore the patterns, textures, and geography of skin, scales and hair. Mixing the exotic and the ordinary, and making it difficult to tell which is which, Horenstein causes the viewer to pause and look closely. In doing so, his goal is to have the viewer reexamine themselves, as well as the world around us.
Horenstein’s work has been extensively published and exhibited in galleries and museums nationally and internationally including the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History; the George Eastman House;  the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Fabrik der Kunste, Hamburg. Horenstein’s work can be found in many private and public collections including the Library of Congress; Smithsonian Institution; High Museum of Art; and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Horenstein has published over thirty books, including monographs of his work and textbooks for teaching photography. He is a professor at the Rhode Island School of Design.
