Eric McDade

Eric McDade (Philadelphia, PA) makes illustrative, graphic prints with tragi-comic narratives. He draws from sources such as children’s books, nursing and medical manuals, instructional booklets and his own experiences. His dry style plays perfectly off of the tragic, awkward, downtrodden characters presented. At first glance the work seems simple, but many layers of meaning lie just below the surface.

McDade was born in Detroit, MI in 1971. In 1996 he earned his BFA from Wayne State University and in 1999 earned an MFA from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Detroit, New York and Berlin.
