Art Spiegelman

Art Spiegelman (New York, NY) is best known for his graphic novels and comic work. He is author and illustrator of two Pultizer Prize winning books: Maus I: A Survivor’s Tale and Maus II, both books are based on his parents' concentration camp experiences told through the eyes of small, highly detailed mice.

Art Spiegelman was born in Sweden and raised in Queens, New York. He has taught history and aesthetics of comics at the School of Visual Arts, New York. He is co-founder and editor of RAW, an acclaimed avant-garde comic magazine. His work has been published in many periodicals, including The New Yorker. His drawings have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Other honors he has received include a Guggenheim Fellowship and a nomination for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His artwork has been included in exhibitions at Exit Art, New York; Lombard-Freid Fine Arts, New York; White Columns, New York; and The National Museum of American Jewish History, Philadelphia, PA, among many others.
