Yoonmi Nam
Yoonmi Nam (Lawrence, KS) was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, spending part of her youth in Canada. Her work considers cross-cultural experience and sense of transience through observations of everyday objects and occurrences.
She received a BFA degree in printmaking from Hong-Ik University, Seoul, Korea and an MFA in painting and printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design. Nam received grants and awards to support her creative research and travel, including a Hall Center Creative Work Fellowship at The University of Kansas; Solo Exhibition Award, The Print Center, Philadelphia; Ngwang Choephel Fellowship, U.S. State Department, Washington D.C. and MI-LAB Artist Residency Award, Japan. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally in countries including Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Paraguay, Poland, Scotland, South Korea and Sweden. She has taught at RISD and Washington University, St. Louis. Currently, she teaches at the University of Kansas, where she has been a faculty member since 2001.
