Paul Rider

Paul Rider (Philadelphia, PA) works in both abstract and documentary modes, across several distinct series, from abstract still lifes to architecturally based landscapes. His work is inspired by an abiding interest in the intersections between nature and the manmade, and is expressed in a wide range of media, from platinum/palladium to digital printing.

Rider received a BFA in photography from University of the Arts, Philadelphia and an MFA in photography from Savannah College of Art, GA. A dedicated educator, Rider has taught at the university level since 2003. He has exhibited his work across the United States, as well as in Europe.

Created from found objects, the “Savannah Still Life” series is, according to Rider, “representative of the making and remaking of our lives in the quest for perfection, beauty of some kind of fulfillment. . . . They exist momentarily and make us aware of the possiblity of the sublime.”
