Hideki Kimura

Hideki Kimura (Japan) uses current digital technologies to experiment with form and color. For the Misty Dutch series Kimura took inspiration from the abstract paintings of the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian; his interpretation is soft, fuzzy and rearranged, but still clearly related to Mondrian. Kimura views this process as a collaboration between himself and other artists which explores the balance between active and passive creation.

Kimura attended Kyoto City University of Arts were he completed both undergraduate and post graduate degrees in oil painting. He then moved to the US in 1988, where he attended the University of Pennsylvania. Kimura returned to Japan in 1995, where he is an Associate Professor at Kyoto City University of Arts. Kimura’s work has been exhibited all over the world in both solo and group exhibitions. Highlights include International Biennial Exhibition of Prints, Tokyo; British International Print Biennial, Bradford, UK; International Print Biennial, Krakow, Poland and The Exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Prints, Ferrara, Italy. His work is included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka; Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo; British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum, London; National Museum of Art, Warsaw and The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
