Sarah McEneaney
Sarah McEneaney (Philadelphia, PA) creates detailed and intimate autobiographical work. Rich, jewel-like colors immediately draw one in to a scene full with information. Her subjects are rendered in a sophisticated and knowingly awkward way and tell of personal events and spaces – from daily occurrences to once in a lifetime moments.
McEneaney received her certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1979. She has had solo museum shows at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; Mills College Art Museum, CA; and the List Gallery, Swarthmore College, PA. She has been in over seventy group shows throughout the mid-Atlantic region and is the recipient of a number of grants and fellowships including the Yaddo Fellowship, the Pew Fellowship in the Arts, the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, the MacDowell Colony Fellowship, and the Chianti Foundation Residency. Her work appears in the permanent collections of the The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design; Providence, RI; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA; Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, PA and the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA.
