Tia Blassingame is a book artist, printmaker, curator, and educator with a B.A. in Architecture from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, an M.A. in Book Arts from Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, DC, and an M.F.A. in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI.
Blassingame founded Primrose Press in 2009, where she showcases her handset letterpress work, poetry, and collaborations with other artists. Her work explores the intersection of race, history, and perception. Utilizing printmaking and book arts techniques, she renders racially-charged images and histories for a nuanced discussion on issues of race and racism.
Blassingame has been the Architecture Editor of New York Arts Magazine, and an artist-in-residence at MacDowell Colony, Peterborough, NH; Santa Fe Art Institute, Santa Fe, NM; and the Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, Red Wing, MN. Her artist books and prints can be found in library and museum collections around the world including The British Library, London, UK; The Library of Congress, Washington, DC; Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, NL; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Tate Britain, London, UK; Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, München, DE; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC; and State Library of Queensland, South Brisbane, AU. Blassingame is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Scripps College, where she teaches Book Arts and Letterpress Printing, and serves as the Director of Scripps College Press.
