Tamsen Wojtanowski
Tamsen Wojtanowski (Philadelphia, PA) utilizes paper as a medium to document and contemplate history. She pays tribute to her past and present identities through the use of cyanotype emulsion, a material acutely responsive to the passage of time and exposure. Wojtanowski's work often addresses her position as a mother, reflecting on a previous version of herself and the chaos that accompanies the gift of children. Becoming a mother offered her a fresh perspective, akin to discovering the world anew. Her artwork is intended to be a sanctuary for contemplation, a space for delving into the profound inquiries often overlooked in the busyness of adulthood.
Wojtanowski received a BS from Ithaca College, NY, and an MFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, Philadelphia. Her work has been included in exhibitions at The Susquehanna Art Museum, Harrisburg, PA; Fleisher Art Memorial, Pentimenti Gallery and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, all Philadelphia; Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh, PA. She was a Semifinalist in The Print Center's 92nd ANNUAL International Competition, 2018; and an Emerging Artist Scholarship recipient, Lucie Foundation, Los Angeles, CA, 2017. Wojtanowksi's work is held in the collection of Ithaca College and is included in the White Columns Artist Registry, NY.
